What is a Lumbung?
A lumbung is a traditional Indonesian rice barn, most commonly found in Bali and other rural areas of Indonesia.
🔹 Primary Function:
The lumbung is used to store harvested rice, keeping it dry and safe from pests like rodents and insects.
🔹 Architectural Features:

Built on stilts to avoid ground moisture.

Thatched roof, often made from alang-alang grass, with a distinctive curved or peaked shape.

Open sides or ventilation slats for natural airflow.

Made primarily of wood, sometimes with traditional carvings.

The term lumbung also refers to a shared community resource or collective storage, symbolizing solidarity and mutual aid.

What makes our Lumbung Deluxe truly exceptional is, above all, their eco-responsible design and the use of noble materials such as Bengkirai wood, also known as Yellow Balau. This tropical hardwood, native to Southeast Asia (mainly Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines), is renowned for its strength and durability.
Sourced from Shorea species (Dipterocarpaceae family), Bengkirai wood offers outstanding characteristics:

Color: yellow-brown to reddish-brown, with a warm and natural hue.

Density: dense and heavy (850 to 950 kg/m³), ensuring long-lasting strength.

Durability: naturally resistant to insects, fungi, and weather, making it ideal for outdoor use.

Texture: fine to irregular grain, offering an authentic and elegant finish.

Common uses: decking, cladding, outdoor furniture, boardwalks, and even marine structures.
Our Lumbungs also feature recycled asphalt roofing, and all furniture is made from reclaimed wood sourced from former railway sleepers. The pools are crafted from upcycled shipping containers—an ingenious solution that is fully waterproof, highly durable, and exceptionally stable.
Plant-based partitions serve as natural dividers, blending seamlessly into the landscape while preserving privacy and respecting the surrounding environment.
